Want to jump into the corporate world of Cubicle, full of surprise performance reviews and wild excuses, but worried you may feel lost? While we don’t do workers comp for hurt egos, we have a few improv warm-ups to keep you loose and limber for your first game of Cubicle.
- Freeze Getting ready to jostle your coworkers out of the way to make it to the top? FREEZE right there, first let’s do a warm-up. This improv game is perfect for beginners, with a fairly simple premise.
Get a group of at least 3 people, and have 2 people start a scene while others stand to the side and watch. This can be anything, such as a shopper and a cashier, or 2 people struggling to unclog a toilet. Whenever someone on the side has a new idea, they yell FREEZE and tap out one of the participants. They’ll replace the person who just got tapped out and then unfreeze the scene, establishing a new scenario.
This is the perfect warm-up for beginners and will help get you into that cut-throat mindset of replacing your peers as you start your struggle to the top of the corporate ladder.
- Alphabet To succeed at Cubicle, you’ll need to know at least the basics of reading (or at least be good enough to fake it), making Alphabet another great warm-up game for Cubicle employees.
This game requires at least 2 people. The first person starts a conversation with a sentence beginning with A, such as “Apple pie is the worst kind of pie.” The next person would respond with a sentence beginning with B, “But blueberry tastes so much worse.” So on and so forth until you reach Z.
This is a perfect warm-up by letting 2 players work off each other’s last sentence to make a coherent piece of dialogue, while staying within the rules of the game. If you think you’ll have trouble during performance reviews, this is perfect practice.
- Storytelling While climbing over each other for a promotion is integral to Cubicle’s workplace culture, team bonding is also a significant aspect. This next game is great to learn how to get along with your fellow coworkers.
This game requires at least 2 people. Person one says a single word, with person two following up with another word. This process continues with all members contributing one word at a time to create a story.
By building a story together, you’ll have to work with your teammates, just like in our company-mandated team-building exercises. Making this a perfect warm-up for Cubicle.
Now that you’ve stretched those improv muscles, you’ll be ready to take on anything Cubicle may assign you and maybe even secure that promotion!
